My Learning Journey

My why

Reflecting back on my education journey and the path to where I currently am both personally and professionally was anything but traditional.

Upon starting at the University of Manitoba, I initially wanted to study law or health sciences, with a focus on healthcare. Thankfully, during my studies, I explored different subjects. One field that instantly resonated with me was business and its various aspects. My passion for assisting others, both individuals and businesses, led me to different sales roles. Eventually, I made a significant change and entered the realm of human resources.

I have always been a believer that both personality and competence are necessary to thrive in a given role. For me, that began with the Human Resources Management Certificate program at the University of Manitoba. I entered the program in 2016 and learned the core functions of Human Resources, including strategic functions, organizational development, staff training, legislative requirements, recruitment, and selection.

Fast forward to 2018, I graduated from the HRM certificate program and accepted a job in staff training and development. A mentor of mine was also pursuing the PDAL certificate program and highly recommended it. I joined the program immediately, hoping to apply the new concepts and knowledge to my professional role. I’m happy to say that the program exceeded my expectations. It not only helped me in my job but also allowed me to create new memories and build relationships with peers. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and look forward to graduating in the fall of 2023.
